A New Bekka Bag Added to the Family

Most of you know by now that I not only love handbags, but I make them also. I recently had a request for a handbag by a special person, Mi Madre! She needed a new black handbag and she knew where to get one. Now she didn't want anything real difficult or all extravagant. She requested a simple design for everyday use that has a long strap for her to carry on her shoulder, two handles and a few exterior pockets for her phone, glasses and keys to be easily accessible. Leather Paper Bag Tote

Another Tohni Bekka bag has been made, this time it's a Tote!

IMG_2019One day I was thinking about the leather scraps I have left over from other handbags that I wanted to use instead of buying another hide of leather. I wanted to be a little bit more creative and see what I could come up with out of the three colors of leather I had. SHE IS DONE!!! I finished another Tohni Bekka Handbag! The Helen Satchel. I'm sure you don't remember the last update and what my inspiration for this handbag. As you know, I love handbags! I have mentioned before that I love the silhouette of a barrel handbag. Even though it doesn't have compartments (which you can add when you make your own bag) but for women who keep a pretty organized handbag or don't carry much, a barrel will suite you just fine.

I designed a handbag with this silhouette inspired by a 1950's handbag which belonged to my grandmother, Helen, who passed when I was younger. I kept her bag in my closet for over twenty years. I don't remember when it came into my possession, all I know is that it belonged to my grandmother and I felt like I had a piece of her with me. It's not a designer handbag but it belonged to her. It was her handbag that she carried her special stuff in and contained the things that she held close to her. So I took a shape I like and her bag and created this...
